The discipline of the honorary consul in Italy and the honorary Italian consul abroad
The honorary consul, unlike the career consul, does not have to pass competitive tests involving, among other things, knowledge of consular law. However, the activity that the Honorary Consul is called upon to perform, in the interest of the citizens and businesses of the sending state, is very often of a technical-legal nature and requires mastering the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and the national laws, which govern its role, functions and status personnel, as interpreted by international and domestic jurisprudence.
ConfProfessions, together with ApriFormazione and Apri Europa, in collaboration with theInternational Diplomatic Institute (I.D.I.) and the National Federation of Foreign Diplomats and Consuls in Italy (FE.N.CO.) are organizing the Advanced Training Course for Honorary Consuls. The discipline of the Honorary Consul in Italy and the Honorary Italian Consul abroad.
The purpose of the Course is twofold. For one thing, it is useful to share experiences and best practices among Consuls, Vice Consuls and Honorary Consular Officers authorized to exercise their functions in Italy and, likewise, among Italian Honorary Consuls abroad, so as to Deepen every aspect of the assigned responsibilities, thus increasing the capacity and effectiveness in the delivery of related services. On the other hand, it is necessary to ensure that those – notably. the professionals – aspire to join the category of honorary consuls, through targeted high-level training, the indispensable background of specialized theoretical-practical knowledge, which, among other things, are also likely to improve opportunities when evaluating applications by the sending state.
The Course benefits from the scientific direction and coordination of Prof. Carlo CURTI GIALDINO, full f.r. of Diplomatic-Consular Law at the University of Rome “La Sapienza.”
Lectures will be given by academics, career diplomats and honorary consuls, serving and/or retired, experts and practitioners of consular relations.
The Course is organized on 13 Modules for a total of 52 hours (3 in-person and 10 remote Modules). The Course will start on November 10, 2023 and end on March 23, 2024 .
